A judge ruled Friday not to lower the $1 million bail for two Fairfield teens charged with murdering Spanish teacher Nohema Graber.
Jeremy Goodale and Willard Miller are accused of killing her in early November at Chautauqua Park in Fairfield, which is near the high school and a place Graber was known to take walks.
Both 16-year-olds pleaded not guilty and their lawyers asked Judge Joel Yates on November 23rd to lower their bail. They argued the teens are not flight risks and do not have a criminal history while saying the $1 million bond was excessive.
Judge Yates denied their request. In new court documents he said he took into account the nature and circumstances of the offense, defendants' family ties, and record of convictions.
The judge ruled if the teens do post bail, they will be required to have pretrial-release supervision by the 8th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services.
Each defendant would need to sign a contract with the department within 24 hours of their release.
