The Live+Same Day numbers reported in our ratings column do not reflect a show’s overall performance, given the increased use of delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms, plus out-of-home viewing. These numbers (Nielsen fast nationals, unless denoted as finals) instead aim to simply illustrate trends or superlatives.
Did you forget to put How the Grinch Stole Christmas Live on the list?
“Forget”? No. But now added!
So the ratings were not great… for a live production to only get 0.9 would say that is a huge flop… only Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical got fewer ratings…
I wonder why… Hollywood’s war on redheads got to stop!!!
I started watching the Cowboys game after Ghosts and forgot to flip over and check out Annie. Oops.
Based on the headline spin, one would be surprised to see that Annie will be near the bottom of the live musical list. But it’s all relative consider how few ppl actually watch live TV, except for sports.
Not spin, simply a fact. I didn’t want to suggest/lock in any ranking until the Nielsen finals are in for a live, family-friendly event that ran until 11 pm. And yes, the ratings climate has changed greatly over past two years since last musical thing (Young Sheldon is down 30%, for example.)
Broadcast and cable are nearing parity for scripted demo numbers. Sad thing is its only going to get worse and necessitate a change to incorporate alternate viewing methods. We all know these viewers haven’t gone anywhere, they’re just watching via the many other methods available at a later dare.
How about “ThevWizard of Oz in Concert* starring Jewel? Was that live?
From… the year 1995?
Sorry, didn’t realize it was that long ago

Young Sheldon….got 6.4
nice try y’all
Who wants to handle this one…?
I got it, save your fingers
Advertisers care about the 18-49 demo, always have. That is what measures rank. Annie got a 0.9, Sheldon got a 0.6, so Annie beat it.
Really Tyler? so 1.2 million people more doesn’t mean anything?
It means that Young Sheldon had 1.2 more million viewers — many of whom, apparently, aged out of the coveted 18-49 demo that advertisers pay for, if Annie Live had such a higher demo rating with 1.2 million fewer viewers.
Advertisers want people seeing their ads.
The more the better.
Advertisers want people 18-49 seeing their ads. Thus the reason for calculating a demo rating in the first place.
I think I’d leave this to the tv reporting expert…
But also the reason advertisers care more about that demo I think has to do with the older people get, the more set they are in what products they get and are less affected by advertising. At least that’s how I’ve always understood it. That and something about disposable income that I never really understood. (doesn’t seem like that’d make sense for 18-22…)
Disposable, while the term they use, probably isn’t the right one. Beyond the advertising affect you speak of, also older people already have a lot of stuff, so they done impulse purchase much. “Go by my thingamabob!” “Eh, my old thingamabob I’ve had for 20 years will work fine.” Young people need/want more things, even if theoretically have more money to spend. (Though many a retiree is on a budget.)
I didn’t watch Annie Live! last night but did watch it on Peacock today when it better fit my schedule. I do that with all NBC shows, same with CBS and their streaming service. The only “live” broadcast I might watch is sports or Olympics.
Glad to see more eyeballs for Walker.
… sadly for that very “unwanted” exit.
I didn’t realize how low Dr Seuss Grinch was compared to the other musicals.
Looks like Carrie Underwood draws a crowd
Looks like the novelty of being the first was a draw.
Annie was entertaining. Celina Smith was great and has a beautiful voice that gave me goosebumps. The rest of the cast was great too. I will definitely watch it again on Christmas day.
I really enjoyed Annie live ,I give it an A- because of a few shots of the boom MIC and camera in front of Harry Cannick Jr. Highly enjoyable.
We know live ratings have definitely changed. Many shows that were cancelled back in the day would be a hit today. 🤣 But it still did well in today’s ratings. Plus DVR and streaming will raise the numbers. In 2021. If you trend on Twitter, then your numbers are usually good.
Please boost your ratings look forward CSI Vegas, Bull, Seal team so good. Including different Network Ordinary Joe is the best new drama . Never missed any episodes of it. Enjoy it and love it.
