Kettering Health partnering with SICSA to help ensure care of inpatients’ pets

DAYTON — Kettering Health has partnered with local pet adoption and wellness agency, SICSA, to ensure the care of pets belonging to inpatients at Kettering Behavioral Medicine Center, according to a release. Kettering Health is the first hospital system in the Dayton region to offer this service.

SICSA’s Safe Pets Program will provide a temporary home to the pet, provide updates on the pet to the patient and help bring the pet home once the patient is discharged — at little to no cost.

Over the past few months, Kettering Health has been informed of multiple cases of pets being left alone with no care while the owner is hospitalized. They hope to address this resource gap with the program.

“Having this resource will help our patients in their recovery, so they can return home to their pets,” said Julie Manuel, clinical program manager at Kettering Behavioral Medicine Center, in a release.
