PALM CITY — A 54-year-old motorcyclist died Thursday after a crash on Southwest Murphy Road near the C-23 canal, according to the Florida Highway Patrol on Friday.

The crash happened at 6:24 p.m. Thursday as the motorcycle rider, a Stuart man, traveled north on Southwest Murphy Road approaching Southwest Rivers End Way, the FHP stated.

The front of the motorcycle “collided with and traveled over a curb that separated the north and southbound lanes,” according to the FHP.

The motorcycle went down and slid to the north, stopping in the northbound lane.

The motorcycle rider, who the FHP stated wasn’t wearing a helmet, died at the scene.

The FHP reports they are working to notify the man’s family members.

The agency has not publicly released the names of those killed or injured in crashes since April 2020 after the implementation of Marsy’s Law.

Introduced in memory of a young woman murdered by her ex-boyfriend, Marsy’s Law was created to offer crime victims a slate of rights, including protecting them and their families from harassment by their attackers.

Some law enforcement officials have interpreted the statute as applying to any victim, as well as to law enforcement officers being entitled to privacy and having their identity protected.
