A fatal train accident in Fairfield Wednesday morning was a case of suicide, Fairfield police said Thursday.

The victim was 24-year-old woman from Suisun.

The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. on the railroad tracks closest to Sunset Avenue and East Travis Boulevard.

According to an Amtrak spokeswoman, the woman was on the tracks when struck by Amtrak train 524, which was headed to Sacramento from San Jose.

There were 50 passengers aboard the train. None of them, nor any crew members, were injured.

Passengers were delayed for 2 hours and 6 minutes and the incident contributed to additional train delays, the spokeswoman said.
