- More than 800 people crowded the Morgan Park High School auditorium yesterday to testify at a public hearing on the school's closing. Morgan Park is scheduled to become a junior high in 1983 under the School Board's five-year consolidation plan.
- Duluth police have seized at least 15 counterfeit $100 bills passed at several Miller Hill Mall businesses in the past two days, Detective Inspector Ernest Grams said yesterday. Grams believes the 15 bills are part of a larger batch of counterfeit money circulating in Duluth.

- Pope Benedict yesterday named The Right Rev. Monsignor Joseph G. Pitten of Marquette, Michigan, as Bishop of Superior, according to a telegraphic dispatch received from Rome yesterday. Monsignor Pitten will assume his bishopric duties in Superior by February.
- Mayor S.F. Snively and Capt. Henry Cleveland, superintendent of parks, have declared war on vandals cutting trees in Duluth parks. Yesterday a man was observed cutting an evergreen in Lester Park, but he drove away in his automobile before he could be apprehended.
