How Tokyo Appears in 'Money Heist' Season 5 Part 2

Money Heist's final season has been released on Netflix, bringing the franchise to its thrilling conclusion.

The new episodes follow The Professor (Álvaro Morte) and his fellow thieves as they try to complete their heist in the Bank of Spain.

One character whose appearance remained up in the air was Tokyo, who met her end in the first half of the fifth season.

Here, Newsweek can share how the character, played by Úrsula Corberó, remains a part of the Spanish crime drama.

An unreliable narrator

Tokyo has been the narrator for the series since it first began in 2017, though her complex retelling of events proved her unreliability in the role.

In Season 5 Part 1 Tokyo was killed during an invasion by Special Forces, which resulted in her blowing herself up to take also several of them down with her.

Despite no longer being alive, the character remains the narrator in Part 2 and in the first episode she makes reference to how she is talking from beyond the grave.

Through her narrations Tokyo refers to herself as still being a part of the gang as events unfold, suggesting that she is watching them in real time and feeling the same emotions as they are.

There in spirit

In a moving scene from the first episode, Tokyo shares a final farewell with Rio (Miguel Herrán) who can feel her spirit in the room she died in.

She remains, at least temporarily, in the real world and reassures him that she is no longer suffering, while Rio tells her spirit that a door will always remain open to her in his heart.

This is in reference to what Tokyo told him during the heist in the Royal Mint of Spain in seasons 1 and 2, that her mother made up a story about how she could enter the world of fairies through a small door drawn on the wall in chalk.

In Episode 3, Stockholm (Esther Acebo) hears Tokyo's voice while suffering from PTSD after shooting Arturo Román (Enrique Arce).

Tokyo tells Stockholm that she is in the service lift where one of the surviving members of the Special Forces is, and when Stockholm looks inside she believes the brief glimpse of the soldier is in fact Tokyo.

In flashbacks

As Pedro Alonso and Alba Flores have done since their character Berlin and Nairobi's deaths, Úrsula also continues to appear in flashbacks.

Tokyo is seen in the classroom with her fellow thieves while The Professor details his plan for the Bank of Spain heist.

She also appears in Episode 4 in two scenes where she dances alongside their leader and the gang while preparing for the heist.
