A two-year-old girl has been shot by an apparent stray bullet as she sat in her car seat in Henderson.

On Monday, the Henderson Police Department responded the shooting at Powell and South Adams Streets after two-year-old Phoenix Lindsey was shot as she sat in her car seat. The vehicle she was in had just stopped at a stop sign when the shot rang out, police said.

The child was taken to a local hospital where she is listed in stable condition. Her father told news outlets she will need several surgeries to close the exit wound and repair one of her hamstrings.

“I hope the person who’s responsible has a heart and is willing to come forward and admit to their mistake,” Phoenix’s father said. “Phoenix is two-years-old, she deserves justice. She didn’t deserve to be shot by a stray bullet.”

No arrests have yet been made.
