Chris Cuomo has opened up about his suspension from CNN, admitting he is embarrassed over the situation.
The prime-time news anchor has been suspended indefinitely from the network following revelations detailing efforts to help his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, amid an ongoing sexual harassment scandal.
Testimony released by the Attorney General's office this week showed that Chris Cuomo used his position at CNN to find information about his brother's accusers.
"Quick note about the obvious—I've been suspended from CNN," Cuomo, 51, said on his SiriusXM Satellite Radio show, Let's Get After It, Wednesday.
"You know this already. It hurts to even say it. It's embarrassing, but I understand it. And I understand why some people feel the way they do," Cuomo said
"I've apologized in the past. I mean it. The last thing I ever wanted to do was compromise any of my colleagues. And do anything but help."
CNN confirmed on Monday that Chris Cuomo—the current host of CNN's Cuomo Prime Time—is suspended indefinitely.
"The New York Attorney General's office released transcripts and exhibits Monday that shed new light on Chris Cuomo's involvement in his brother's defense," a CNN spokesperson said in a statement.
"The documents, which we were not privy to before their public release, raise serious questions. When Chris admitted to us that he had offered advice to his brother's staff, he broke our rules and we acknowledged that publicly," the statement continues.
Cuomo added that he respects CNN's "process" in dealing with the situation.
"I know they have a process that they think is important. I respect that process. So I'm not going to talk about this any more than that. So for right now, let's just get after it, and there's plenty to do on that score."
He concluded: "So I'm not going to talk about this any more than that."
A CNN spokesperson has added that the network "appreciated the unique position he was in and understood his need to put family first and job second."
The statement continues: "However, these documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother's efforts than we previously knew. As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation."
The situation has seen a number of media figures rally around Chris Cuomo to offer support, with many people saying they would also back their family members in a similar situation.
Andrew Cuomo is facing multiple sexual harassment claims and resigned as governor of New York earlier this year. He denies all claims against him.
