Royal fans will remember 9 March 2020 very well, as it marked the final official royal engagement for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, before they stepped down from their senior working roles within the family and headed off for pastures new. All eyes were on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex that day during a ceremony and celebration for the Commonwealth, along with future king, Prince William, and his wife, Kate Middleton.
During the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey, many reports observed that there were some uncomfy moments between the two brothers and their wives, and now none other than singer Craig David has shared his own recollections of the day.
He was invited along to perform at the event, as was Alexandra Burke, and boxer Anthony Joshua gave a moving speech about the importance of diversity and equality.
Now, speaking during a recent appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, as reported by The Mirror, Craig told the host all about how he picked up on the awkward vibes that day, but said it was a really special experience all the same.
"I performed at Westminster Cathedral. [There was] a lot of tension going on at that period of time," he explained, noting, "Harry and Meghan were there. I went to sing for the Commonwealth celebrations."
He continued on to say that he remembers walking up as part of the procession, spotting that the Queen was watching him, before giving a moving acoustic performance to the royals and other attendees.
On the Queen in particular, Craig said there was a "moment she looked up and that moment of acknowledgement... the full vibes. [They came from] everyone in the family."
The singer also discussed his belief that music can be therapeutic and shared that he also connected to Meghan and Harry during his performance. "I always talk about how music is healing and a form of therapy, I could feel it cut through. There was a part where Harry looked up, Meghan looked up, I felt it really landed in their hearts.
"It felt like that was the one moment where I was able to witness that."
