The Dance Scene will present its fifth series of dance photography this month at the 208 C Street Studios in Old Town Eureka. An Arts Alive! reception is planned Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.

There will be a selection of 100 new dance photographs on display. This photography art show pairs ballet dancers with environments outside of their normal studio space.

Carrie Badeaux, director of the project, works closely with the dancers to create a compelling body of work. Five local dancers are featured: Brooke Grammer, Zaila Barba-Oliveri, Cain Towers, Carrie Badeaux and Elizabeth Cable. Photo locales range from the Del Norte Street pier and an old, shuttered bar to the Benbow Inn and local beaches — and more.

Badeaux said, “I enjoy the connection between the two art forms of dance and photography. A dance still is a much different visual than its usual movement. Pairing that stillness with our beautiful landscapes and unique vistas has been a great project. It has to personify the spirit of dance.”

The first installment of the Dance Scene photography exhibition was presented in March 2013. There was such success with that first show that the premise has been continued ever since with an exhibition every two years. In addition to the exhibit, there will be live art taking place where artists will be painting and sketching costumed dancers throughout the night.

The Arts Alive reception will be the only chance to view the collection in person.
