Our Editor’s Guide to a Weekend in NYC

Where to Stay, Where to Eat and What to Do in The Big Apple

New York City, there’s no place quite like you. From the energy you feel walking down the street to the endless amount of iconic restaurants, spending a weekend in the city may feel like a daunting task because there’s so much to explore. Even just a few days in the Big Apple, however, is well worth it. It really is the city that never sleeps, and why would you want to?  Locals Guide to NYC

While west-coasters traveling to New York lose three hours in the air, you may want to consider taking a red-eye flight to really maximize your time here. If you’ve been to New York City before, you’ve likely done the so-called touristy attractions. So for this trip, let’s live more like a local and explore the city like never before.

Where to Stay

Before your trip, you should plan out everything you want to do so you can stay in the best location possible. After all, a big part of exploring the city is walkability. A stay at Conrad Midtown will certainly not disappoint. The service is impeccable, the location is ideal and the rooms are…ginormous (if we’re talking NYC square-footage). Located just a few blocks away from Central Park, Times Square and the best of the best Broadway shows, it’s the perfect place for a home base. If you don’t want to travel far for dinner, their on-site restaurant Dabble has delicious bites and cocktails.

What to Do

The Seaport

The Seaport is a historic neighborhood in Lower Manhattan that offers iconic views of both the Brooklyn Bridge and city skyline. It’s an epic destination to visit during either the daytime or evening. Dining options include Malibu Farm NYC, The Fulton, Pearl Alley, the Garden Bar and more. After your meal, browse around cute shops like McNally Jackson Books, Scotch & Soda and SJP By Sarah Jessica Parker (we hear she loves to make guest appearances!). We recommend checking out the upcoming concerts and events at Pier 17, the rooftop that offers unreal NYC views in an intimate setting.

Hop on over to the other side of the Brooklyn Bridge and explore the quaint area of DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass). There are parks, restaurants, a waterfront carousel and shops to explore! Not too far from Brooklyn is the hip and trendy neighborhood of Williamsburg. Depending on the weather, consider taking the iconic bridge for a walk back to Manhattan.

Central Park

Central Park covers over 800 acres of the city, allowing for a breath of fresh air. Ice-skating rinks, baseball fields, running paths, ponds and bridges make up this beautiful space. A quick walk in the park guarantees that you’ll find a new area to explore!

The High Line

While it can get crowded, The High Line is an elevated, public park. No reservations are needed, and it’s a great place to experience unique art, gardens, design and views of the city. After your walk, make your way to Chelsea Market for food vendors, artisanal goods and shopping at this lively marketplace.

Where to Eat

How do you possibly decide where to eat during a trip to NYC? Whether you have a list of must-try eats during your trip or you have no idea where to start, let us help you with these recommendations. There are thousands of restaurants in the city—some might be tourist traps, local hidden gems or renowned restaurants.

It’s obviously necessary to start the day off with a coffee—and this morning, it’s not Starbucks. Ralph’s Coffee, The Elk, Cha Cha Matcha and Café Leon Dore are all coffee shops worth checking out that will caffeinate you for your day ahead. For breakfast, you can’t go wrong with a classic bagel (yes, they do taste better in NYC) from Ess-a-Bagel or Tompkins Square Bagels. Otherwise, if you’ve got time to spend, opt for a delicious brunch at Sadelle’s, Jack’s Wife Frieda or Ruby’s. For dinner, it’s always best to try to make a reservation, as some restaurants are booked for months in advance. Looking to spend a few bucks? Sant Ambroeus, Carbone and Saint Theo are decadent Italian restaurants that always provide an impeccable meal. Bar Pitti, American Bar, Rubirosa and Katz Delicatessen are other restaurants worth dining at.
