PRE-GAME STORY

WINNIPEG, MB -Consistency. That's what the Devils are looking for tonight after a 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild where at times they looked lost and at other times they looked like they just might have come back from a 3-0 deficit.
The assignment doesn't get any easier tonight with a game against the Winnipeg Jets. While the Devils played last night, the Jets haven't played a game since Monday.
"Their team is going to be looking at it as a back-to-back situation for us," said Devils head coach Lindy Ruff. "They'll be coming hard. We'll be under pressure early and we're going to have to manage the puck. You look at the opportunities Minnesota got, most of them we had the puck but didn't make the play to get out of the zone."
Ruff talked about how he tried to roll four lines in Minnesota, not necessarily because of the back-to-back but to try and find a line that could make some things happen on the ice. And it almost worked.
"For a point, we were searching for one line to catch fire and we did in the second period. The McLeod line got us going, got some traffic and that allowed Graves to score his goal," he said. "We tried to play four (lines) and got more energy and consistency when rolling four lines."
SHORT SHIFTS
Key for the club tonight will be taking shorter shifts. Ruff lamented the club getting caught multiple times on Thursday, leading to several of the Wild goals.
"If you look a couple of (their goals), we were at the tail-end of long shifts. If you're caught on long shifts a lot of bad stuff happens. If you execute early, you don't have to spend as much time."
Another important task for the Devils tonight will be solving Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck -- one of the league's best. Ruff talked about what the team needs to do.
"It's taking advantage of your key opportunities. He's a heck of a goaltender. His numbers are good. If you take his eyes away, flash screens, battle through second opportunities."
As for the Devils, Ruff confirmed that Jonathan Bernier will get the start in goal.
