Noisy planes flying over Hull may soon be a thing of the past
Flight paths for two runways have been altered to not bring planes over highly populated areas of Hull.
For those in Hull bothered by noisy planes departing and arriving at Logan International Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration has a fix that may soon make the friendly skies quieter.
On Thursday, the FAA and Massport implemented a new strategy that has planes taking off from runway 15R make their turn further north, away from the “densely populated” areas of Hull.
The other change goes into effect on Dec. 30 and involves planes landing at Logan on runway 33L. The maneuver gives pilots the option of coming in over the water, away from Hull.
Both new procedures will be in place day and night, seven days a week, according to the FAA.
Looking at Hull, Massport recorded 698 complaints from 24 complainants through September 2021. Through September 2020, the number was just 352, or roughly half, made by 24 complainants. Through the end of 2020, there were 459 complaints from 25 complainants.
Back in 2015, the FAA started working with MIT to research noise over communities.
“Under this program, MIT continues to explore ideas for reducing noise in communities around airports with consideration for potential operational impacts,” the FAA said.
The FAA and Massport came to an agreement in September 2016 to work to reduce plane noise.
