How to Get Heart Scales
Hidden Heart Scales
There are a few ways to obtain a Heart Scale in the Gen IV remakes, but interacting with these specific spots will net you two of them immediately. However, they are hidden items, which means that there’s no visible indicator that they exist outside of using the Dowsing Machine Poketch app.
One can be found on Route 212 when taking the west exit out of Pastoria City. Walk to the northwest until you see a honey tree, then take a few steps into the mud on the left side of the tree. Press A at this location to find what you’re looking for:
The second one is found on Route 214, south of Veilstone City. It’s in the area with all of the fences that divide up the path on the right side of the route. To find the Heart Scale, search this empty space between the tall grass on the left of the Trainer in the purple outfit:
Finding Luvdiscs
Now, we have the non-guaranteed methods of getting this rare item. After obtaining the National Dex, you’ll gain access to Route 224, which is to the right of the Pokemon League. If you fish here with a Super Rod, you’ll encounter Luvdiscs.
Luvdiscs have a chance of holding a Heart Scale, so you can either catch them or use the moves Thief or Covet to steal the item from the Pokemon.
Mining in the Grand Underground
Heart Scales can also be found in the Grand Underground by playing the mining mini-game. To start the mini-game, simply walk up to one of the star-like icons on the map and press A on the marked walls.
This method is far less efficient than stealing from Luvdiscs, but it’s also the only option you have if you’ve collected the two hidden ones and haven’t completed your Sinnoh Pokedex.
How to Use Heart Scales
Heart Scales are used as a currency for the Move Relearner. His house is northeast of the Pokemart in Pastoria City, and he’ll allow your Pokemon to remember and relearn moves that they may have forgotten or skipped while leveling up.
