Legacies Recap: ‘Stefan and Damon’ Help Lizzie Take a Stand Against Hope
The Super Squad’s ongoing attempt to restore Hope’s humanity got real on Thursday’s Legacies — as in, reality TV.
Doing her best Simon Cowell impression, Hope served as the brutally honest judge of Salvatore Idol, a talent competition MG organized to get through to her. Unfortunately, just like the countless votes I placed for Katharine McPhee back in the day, the group’s efforts were for naught. Hope picked apart each contestant one by one — including poor Pedro, whose drawing of Hope was met with the suggestion that he have his fingers cut off.
Not even Cleo, who disguised herself as Landon and read the letter he wrote for Hope before he died, could do the trick. “My wish for you is to have a long, happy life — to do all the things I’ll never get to,” Clandon said. “Wherever you go, remember I’ll always love you. Forever.” Cleo really thought it would work… until Hope reminded Cleo that Landon’s death was ultimately her fault, thus absolving Hope of any personal guilt. Allegedly.
Heck, not even another passionate speech from MG (which always works!) was enough to snap Hope out of her funk. And speaking of snapping, Dark Josie also tried her hand at taking down Hope, threatening to restore her humanity with the snap of a finger. She failed — as D.J. explained, Hope is “basically an Original” at this point — but it did reveal that Hope fears her humanity, as it would mean facing the truth about what she did to Landon. And that’s not nothing.
So, where was Lizzie while all of this was going down? Why, she was busy living out her Wild West fantasies in the therapy box, of course! In this twisted reality, Alaric was jailed for killing Josie, who later turned up very much alive — well, undead. Hope apparently turned Josie into a vampire, forcing Lizzie to drive a stake through her sister’s heart. “Why did you make me go away?” she asked as she was laid to rest. “You were already gone,” Lizzie told her.
In this reality, Lizzie also had an uncle named Rick, one who gifted her with a pair of guns — named Stefan and Damon, naturally — whose bullets were strong enough to take down a tribrid. And take her down she did, after she accepted that her real father’s pacifist ways are what landed him in a coma in the first place. In a nutshell, Lizzie’s journey taught her that trying to “save” Hope was no longer an option. She has to kill her.
On her way out of the therapy box, Lizzie bumped into Josie — who was sent there by Hope, who couldn’t bring herself to kill her — and she made it very clear what she intends to do to everyone’s favorite tribrid. For now, Cleo has decided not to tell anyone about the deadly tree; should she choose to confide in Lizzie, all hell could very well break loose. (You know, that actually sounds like fun.)

Again, this was one of the best episodes of the season. Funny, heartwarming, tragic, all three. Loved Lizzie’s Wild West Fantasy, as well as Hope’s confrontation with Dark Josie. This is shaping up to be the best season yet.

i dont care for the “super squad”, or simulation episodes or campy scenes, or monster of week, or ships, i dont care for that stuff and unfortunately that takes up alot of space, that is why tvd and originals still destroys legacies for the most part as long as they decide to take this disney channel route, tonights show had decent action scenes that is the best they had going for them
Plec already said Legacies will be different and the whole case of the week/campy themes are pretty much what makes it so different. Legacies feels more like Buffy than a disney channel show lol

And ive voiced how I dislike monster of week but at least make it better, he seems to just want to take the lazy route and just make them B movie monsters rather than characters, I appreciate the practical effects that is the best I can get out of them
I guess I meant like its not much at stakes, the “super squad” is too invincible for being such young supernaturals they seem as powerful as the justice league or avengers, the most loss they cant get back is josette, hayley, elijah, klaus(whom were lost on previous shows), rafael and sebastian(who were lost on this show), i have no doubt landon and alaric will come back, brett doesnt want to let them go for some reason
but yeah i guess buffy comparrison works too, what characters from buffys squad was lost and didnt come back, joyce, anna, tara and whats her face giles teacher girlfriend. Cause angel and spike both came back from the dead. So yeah buffys team was almost as invincible as “super squad”
Yeah, they wish it was like Buffy. The intent is there but the execution doesn’t do it at all
In my opinion, “Legacies” is much better than “Buffy” as “Legacies” takes placed in a fully fleshed out universe that was established long ago by two prior shows. “Buffy’s universe felt half baked & underdeveloped, at least until “Angel” came on & made the universe more entertaining. That’s just my opinion. though.
Hmmm. I don’t remember killing on any Disney Channel show. Also Ian, Daniel and Joseph made it pretty clear they had no interest in reprising their roles so idk why you’re waiting on them to show.
As far as Kol goes….why would he show up? He barely interacted with Hope on The Originals. All he cared about was Davina. This is season four. The format has been the same since the pilot so just stop watching instead of complaining about a show you, clearly, don’t like. Stick to TVD & TO re-runs, bro.
i never said a disney show had characters get killed, i was saying it feels like one of those tv y7 shows about a team of kids fighting monsters, compare it to a nickelodean show or power rangers works too i guess.

He took pride in being her favorite uncle. The rest of the family swore to Klaus that they would look after her but all they have done was ignor her. I was happy to see Rebecca but the writers blew it on how to incorporate her character. It sucks they wrote in a tree that can kill hope.
@andy swift-not sure what is the problem with kaleb being part dragon, a few other fans have taken issue to this too, as if this deprived kaleb of some great storyline he was building up towards, the guy was doing nothing of importance to that point not to mention the vampire diaries verse is filled with hundreds of generic plain vampires, what is so wrong with a vampire-dragon hybrid, that is badass, it makes him unique, you should be glad they went that route

oh man, i mean my dream scenario would be aurora cause of her being one of the few vampires pre legacies who made it out intact but if its here im guessing its someone she is possessing cause I dont know if they are getting rebecca breeds back when she plays on that clarice show although maybe the reference in 4×01 was foreshadow. The voice did sound like emma, problem is its going to be a plot hole not that has stopped the writers before but why wouldnt hope recognize her. Like to me its someone we know otherwise this surprise is a empty surprise, if its someone hope has never met, why the hype given by this lady?

Obvious plot hole. Why not dump Hope in the therapy box while she is under the non violence spell? If Hope can add Jo and multiple users can be inside, they could put her in, bleed her dry, snap her neck, gag her, shackle her, and keep bleeding her dry until they can magic her emotions back on. Or until they can find a spell to contain her. We saw Klaus get trapped, with Freya’s help they could probably find a way to neutralize her magic, if only for short periods of time.

Your missing the timing element. Hope agreed to a non violence spell and they could do anything peaceful to try and convince her to turn it back on. During that window they could bring the box right up to her and she wouldn’t be able to use violence. It could even be part of the pitch. Meanwhile, her body is defenseless and a neck snap buys you all the time you need to drain, chain, and contain her.
i mean you could be right but the thing is the stakes on this show is paper thin, like the idea of hope getting thrown into some box or desicated for episodes, i dont see it happening cause she is the poster woman for this show, i think the writers have even established at this point hope to them is the main character not a main character
The thing about containment though is that the running theme for all supernaturals in the TVD/TO/Legacies universe is that they all have weaknesses, and are bound to the laws/balances of nature. Even those who practice black magic can’t escape it. Hope may be the most powerful being yet created, but she is still bound to nature. Besides the white oak, even Klaus had limits. They just need to find what Hope’s particular balance is, but the Squad lacks the experience so, it’s kind of joke expecting them to find it. Also, I really don’t understand why Legacies has completely forgotten that even someone as powerful as Klaus or Hope can be taken down by a simple aneurysm spelled by a powerful witch. From there they could easily bind her waking self to someone willing to stay unconscious (as they did with her and Rafael) long enough to figure something out. I don’t mind making her all powerful, but come on. There are so many things from the combined seasons of TVD and TO that are literally just being shoved aside for the sake of storytelling. Like it or not, Brett needs to understand that, though they’re taking Legacies in a different direction, the show is still part of an established canon. They’re putting out good episodes but sometimes I feel like it’s insulting to expect us to not see the holes.
well the thing is there is dozens of weaknesses put together for vamp, wolf and witch, some need to be tried to see if they work, in theory i guess vervain and wolfbane should not work cause wolf side protects from vervain, vamp side protects wolfbane, just keep applying that formula to many other weaknesses like sunlight and wooden stakes. If they brought back the tunde blade that could be interesting cause that can affect all species.
Another thing to keep in mind is because of the writing, its very soft, some of the protagonists, mainly i feel to be josie and mg refuse to lay a hand on hope so im not expecting anything too hardcore to happen. They want to use words to talk her out instead of violence. And honestly you have lizzie right now who wants to kill hope this dont work either cause I dont buy hope will die and secondly that is too extreme, there is a nice middle ground where the characters can desicate or shove some dagger or something to contain her while they can figure out what to do but even that is going to be brief based on common sense, I know most of the time how these types of shows work and what paths they follow. Cause hope is the established main character, she aint going anywhere unless danielle surprises the fans and says she is leaving on her own terms.
I do agree there needs to be more callbacks to lore instead of moments, like I cant even recall the last time vervain and wolfbane were in the conversation. I mean even with the malivore and necromancer thing they clearly skipped over key lore just to go with something more epic and dramatic, like necromancer we knew could be killed with the malivore dagger which a prison world had imprinted its own version and malivore could be killed with fire therefore the gravitas of the squad stopping these two was out the window cause previous scenes established there were other ways out.
And I believe brett can improve the writing but he seems to be a slow learner Im not trying to slander im just making observations, like he figured out yeah this malivore thing isnt working but he figured it out 3 seasons in cause if you recall interviews i wanna say going back to 2018 or 2019 we were told by him and julie plec yeah malivore is here to stay the entire show, him and his monster of week, this was no 3 season story arc but I think fan backlash got so bad on social media brett just said we’re killing him off with his monsters and just making hope the enemy to appease the fans, i think that is what happened.
Forgot all about the Tunde blade. That’s a good one. The only thought I have about that though, since it was made from one of the bones of the Hollow (which I’m not entirely convinced has been vanquished) it might not be a good idea to use on Hope considering it once chose her for possession due to its ability to absorb her power. But thanks for bringing it up. I’d forgotten all about it. Come to think of it, wasn’t it Kol who hoarded all the dark objects used to torment/contain supernaturals. If I remember correctly, he was the reason many of them were created. I’m sure there’s SOMETHING in the dark object pile that could contain Hope. Cami spent way to much time documenting all of them, for them to just be forgotten.

Good call on all of it, except one thing. Not sure they can use the Tunde blade since it was made from one of the bones of the Hollow. Don’t think it would be a good idea to rebirth that thing that absorbed Hope and her power to walk the Earth again. But, good guess. I’m personally hoping they raid Cami’s secret closet for the dark objects. She catalogued so many, I’m sure there’s something in there that could contain Hope. Also, would be nice tie in for Kol to step up considering he’s the reason they were all created. If anyone knows how to use them, it’s Kol. And finally, alas, don’t believe Brett has learned anything concerning Malivore because I really don’t think he’s gone for good. We’ll see what happens, but not holding my breath.

This sounds like a perfect time to see if Bonnie is willing to do a cameo. The squad doesn’t have the experience and knowledge, and it’s a good opportunity to bring back an original badass tvd character.

After what she did to Alaric, the Squad is only interested in saving Hope. She is the immediate threat, not the Triad. As far as the Squad understanding that she was only there to get weapons, you can understand how (after everything she has done so far) why they couldn’t just trust that she was telling the truth. But I do agree about Finch. At this point she’s as useless as Ethan, and have no idea why they’re being shoved down our throats. Also, Josie isn’t the only person Hope really loves. She loves all them, or they’d all be dead by now. Again, the Squad could care less about going after the Triad, when the immediate threat is Hope. As far as Cleo, if she was really bitter about Hope, she would’ve told everyone about the white oak. Clearly, she’s not as envious as you think she is. No one who’s an enemy, holds back on taking someone down, they way she’s holding back the info that would do so.
Nevertheless, Triad will become an immediate threat to the school at some point in the future. And they need to find a way to counteract the weapon that is capable of killing Hope before Triad or Lizzie gets their hands on it. Also, I’m getting the feeling that Lizzie might join Triad to take out Hope. Does anyone else get this feeling as well?
If the preview for next week is showing a real scene, Cleo shows Lizzie the tree and tells her what it’s for.
That would be a huge mistake for Cleo to show Lizzie the tree with the state of mind that she’s in. And if Lizzie does plan to kill Hope, we know it will go horribly wrong. Has any well laid plan to capture or kill a villain ever gone right in the “Vampire Diaries” Universe? Then there’s Triad to deal with & they are going to be as brutal they can get in order to get their hands on Hope & the weapon that can kill her. I can see them kidnaping Cleo or threating to burn the school to the ground & killing all the students. I can even see Lizzie joining them in her misplaced rage. What do you think?
Considering that Ryan Clarke is the reason there’s a TRIAD organization in the first place, the school has already been attacked by them. Which means the school has probably been on alert of another TRIAD attack since season one. The theory of Cleo’s kidnapping is interesting, though. Speaking of season one, I wonder if this season we’ll see the return of MG’s TRIAD mother. We really haven’t seen anything else about her, so it might be interesting to see if she shows up, again, I mean since Hope is headed their way and all.
I love how the two guns that kill Hope in the Wild West Fantasy are called Stefan & Damon. Great call back to the past. Very creative & imaginative.
Lovely series but hope is too childish…all she thinks about is Landon…putting everyone in the worst situations always too save idiot landon…and the way she disrespects Alaric and he’s the man who actually raised her…they should bring in some of the originals and vampire diaries characters…she reminds me so much of Elena….
Sorry Erick, responding to you was the only way I saw to respond to sasheema. Your comment about Hope being too “childish”. You act like she’s an adult. Even adults are usually morons through their 20s. Hope is a teenager. Teenagers are childish, and do stupid things. They put their own interests (Landon, the boy she loves) above everything else, and often times disrespect their parents ( or parental figures who help raise then, Alaric). Show me a higschooler who never once disrespected their parents, I bet you can’t find one.
wasn’t a fan. hope without humanity was more like elena without humanity than hope unfiltered. i kept noticing that she’s not her father’s daughter even without humanity – she did the game thing and bartered for the weapons while klaus would have snapped necks or threatened student’s lives. hope just roasted them for trying and was a mean girl. lizzie being the one to step up makes sense and i could get behind that more than anyone else due their rocky relationship that went from hating each other to friends. mg has progressed a lot though, i can easily see him surpassing ric as headmaster or teacher of the school.
Bring back her parents in spirit or temporary manifestation. It bothers me that it’s taken 3 to 4 seasons before her actual family makes appearances. All the danger she’s put herself in, the school’s financial situation all could’ve been helped by her Uber wealthy family. No one ever visits …I love this show but I hated the turning off the humanity thing. Over it all ready.

These first seven episodes of season 4 of “Legacies” have been some of the best episodes of the series so far. They really have been embracing for that “Vampire Diaries”/”Originals” vibes. Can’t wait for next week’s episode. Definitely, got “Originals” vibes with Hope facing an army of vampires in the promo for next week. Definitely, Daddy’s Little Girl!
They need to find a way to bring more of the Originals or Vampire Diaries characters back to the show. I literally ONLY turned Legacies back on because of Freya and Rebecca coming back. Other than that, this show is too childish for me. I know that Joseph Morgan said he would never come back, BUT I fully believe that Klaus is watching over Hope and would find some way to come back to protect her after turning to the tribred, or at least let Rebecca become a regular to help her. Something. I can’t with the weird monsters and such.
