Former United Nations Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley was honored Thursday evening by The Citadel Republican Society, but spent much of her speech making predictions for the GOP's political future.
“Just like Carter, we’re going to make sure Joe (Biden) is a one term president. You mark my words," said Haley during the speech. Despite making that prediction the two-term South Carolina governor did not make a commitment to running for president in 2024.
Despite not taking the plunge, many in the crowd were egging her on the do so, one even shouting out a prediction of his own.
“That’s our next president of the United States," he yelled. While Haley didn't comment on the outburst directly, she did acknowledge it by blowing a kiss in the direction of the person who shouted it.
Haley also spent much of her night making statements on how the Republicans should handle themselves with an eye on the future.
“We can’t just bash the president, his party and all of the problems they’ve created. We have to offer solutions that will lift up all Americans. We have to prove that we can make America strong and proud again. I know we can do it because our message is the right message. A message of hope. A message of faith, faith in God, our country and ourselves," said Haley.
The award Haley was given an award named for Nathan Hale, a Revolutionary War soldier who was executed by the British. Former recipients of the award include former president Donald Trump and former vice-president Mike Pence.
