Police arrest man in killing at public storage facility as he tried to flee N.J.

A man attempting to board a flight bound for North Carolina from Newark Liberty International Airport was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with fatally shooting a man earlier this week in Ewing, authorities said.

The shooting happened on Monday evening at the Public Storage on Parkside Avenue, according to a statement from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. Officers arrived shortly after 7:30 p.m. and found Cedric Hennessee Flippin, 29, of Trenton dead outside one of the storage lockers. Investigators found a shell casing near his body, officials said.

Daryl K. Smith, 30, of Trenton, was identified as a suspect and was arrested Thursday at the airport by members of the U.S. Marshals Service, the office said. He was charged with murder and weapons-related offenses and taken to jail, it said.

Prosecutors said they had filed a motion to detain Smith pending his trial.
