The Montreal Canadiens season can’t get much worse on the ice or in the standings, but it did get a little uglier last night when a couple of scary hits into the boards resulted in a Josh Anderson injury.

The Habs winger is one of the few players on the roster who actually looks pretty good on a nightly basis and is creating offence by using his blazing speed and driving to the net to create havoc. He uses his unique combination of speed and skill to overwhelm defenders and terrify goaltenders.

He was using that speed to get to a loose puck on the forecheck last night when he was driven into the boards from behind by Colorado Avalanche forward Kurtis McDermid.

Anderson appeared to be okay when he got up but he would leave the game shortly after and he did not return. The team released a short statement just announcing that he was not going to return to the game due to an upper body injury.

McDermid kind of pushed Anderson into a low crouching position first before finishing his check by driving a prone Anderson into the boards. All of the contact is from behind and, this will shock everyone, but there was absolutely no call on the play from the referees on the ice.

Anderson is having a solid season for the Canadiens, so you would hope he isn’t out long term and gets to come back and continue his strong play. He has seven goals and six assists for 13 points in 24 games and was building chemistry on a strong line with Christian Dvorak and Tyler Toffoli.

Anderson joins a long list of injured players on the Habs as Carey Price, Paul Byron, Mike Hoffman and Joel Edmundson remain out with injuries and of course, Shea Weber will miss the entire season.
