The public last saw Gong Yoo on screen in some episodes of the 2021 Netflix hit Squid Game. Months prior, his film, Seo Bok, opposite Park Bo Gum, also dropped in theaters.
In the next few months or years to come, though, fans will likely see him more often, even outside of his projects. As it happened, the South Korean actor just launched his official account on Instagram, according to AllKpop.
Gong Yoo Marks His 20th Debut Anniversary
The publication claimed that the move marks Gong Yoo’s 20th anniversary in the industry. Fans would recall that he began his acting career in School 4 in 2001.
On Wednesday morning, he shared his first post on the platform, showing a photo of a “well-cooked whole squid” in a bowl. The post did not come with any caption but, many reportedly speculated that it has links to his Squid Game cameo.
The post has since received over 379,000 likes and nearly 12,000 comments.
He posted another photo after an hour, showing his back, wearing a jersey. It features his name, “Gong,” with the number “30.”
Announcement From Management SOOP
Upon launching the Instagram account, the actor’s agency, Management SOOP, released an official announcement. It states that they opened it for Gong Yoo, allowing him to convey his daily life to all the fans.
The agency also notes that the Train To Busan actor has no other social media accounts. Moreover, they confirmed that they are the ones “directly” managing the newly-opened account on Instagram.
Nearly A Million Of Followers
The South Korean actor’s arrival on the platform has “created a storm,” according to ETimes. In less than 12 hours, he already has close to 1 million followers.
Apart from fans, his followers also include celebrities. Bae Suzy is reportedly among the first personalities to follow him.
The Coffee Prince star does not follow anyone back, though, except his management’s official account. He also has yet to get his account verified.
Meanwhile, Gong Yoo will make a series comeback through another Netflix material. The Silent Sea will drop on the streaming service on December 24.
