Being the mother of the bride certainly has its advantages: You get one of the best seats in the house, you get to see the dress even before the groom, and, above all, you get to share in the joy of what is sure to be one of your daughter’s happiest days. But it’s not all kicking back and accepting congratulations (though that's one of the perks). In addition to a whole host of duties that traditionally come with the territory (yes, you may have to get down to get the dance floor moving), with so many eyes on you, you’ll also have to figure out what to wear. She's a fan of airy pastel ensembles, wearing pink to Pippa Middleton’s wedding to James Matthews in 2017 and sky blue for Kate’s historic nuptials to Prince William in 2011. Catherine Walker was behind the latter outfit, which was impeccably tailored and just the right shade to complement her even tan.

Arguably no mother of the bride made a bigger splash with her style in recent years than Meghan Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland. Having crossed the pond to England for her daughter’s 2018 nuptials to Prince Harry, the businesswoman came dressed to impress in head-to-toe Oscar de la Renta. The brand’s co-creative director, Fernando Garcia, told Hello magazine that Doria hand-selected the light green pistachio hue for her fitted suit dress, along with the matching overcoat covered in white floral embroidery. She topped the look off with a classy round cap.

Having already excelled in her mother-of-the-bride duties once (she wore a gorgeous periwinkle gown with white embroidery for daughter Nicky Hilton’s 2015 wedding), Kathy Hilton was a pro by the time Paris’s nuptials rolled around in 2021. Needless to say, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star brought the glam in a stunning black and silver number with a sheer scalloped overlay that was fit for a queen.

The mother of the bride walked her daughter down the aisle in place of the actress's father, Ashok Chopra, who passed away in 2013 of cancer.
