With the MLB lockout in full effect, Kyle Schwarber cannot sign with any team. However, he’s had plenty of time to refine his contract demands.

Schwarber is just 28 years old, and seeking a contract worthy of his services. Unfortunately, talks between he and the Phillies broke down just a few short days ago.

However, Schwarber still has plenty of interest from around the league, including the Red Sox, Marlins, Nationals and Rockies, among others. Just last season, Schwarber reinvented his swing with the help of then-Nationals hitting coach Kevin Long. In 113 games, Schwarber slashed .266/.374/.554 and hit 32 home runs. Come the postseason, he had a tremendous impact on the Red Sox playoff run.

MLB rumors: How much money does Kyle Schwarber want?

Schwarber’s contract demands are actually quite reasonable, given the market at his disposal. Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Schwarber is seeking a three-year contract worth upwards of $60 million.

While he’s not known for his defensive ability, the Red Sox played Schwarber as both a corner outfielder and a first baseman. Ideally, he would slide in as an everyday designated hitter for the right team. It sure helps that the DH is likely coming to the National League once CBA negotiations are finally wrapped up.

Schwarber’s options are sure to expand once a new CBA is agreed to, and the designated hitter is officially employed in the NL. That’s been the expectation all along, with several NL teams pursuing Schwarber as a DH-specific player.
