Skeletal remains found in Southern Kentucky

PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - A search for a missing person in the Mount Zion area of Pulaski County led to the discovery of human remains on Thursday morning.

Sheriff Greg Speck announced the findings in a news release Thursday evening.

Police say evidence near the remains led them to believe they are the remains of Roy Chumbley, who was reported missing on October 4, 2021.

When he last left his home, his wife, Amy, said he left behind some things he usually always had with him.

“He left without his cell phone or his cigarettes and anyone knows Roy doesn’t go anywhere without his cell phone,” she said.

The Coroner picked up the skeletal remains and took them to the state medical examiner’s office.

The Pulaski County sheriff says it is too early to say if there was foul play involved in Chumbley’s death.

“I just don’t think it was possible even if he took off walking and fell, they would not have found his body that far down,” said Amy. “Even with the rain, it would have not washed that far down.”

The sheriff’s detective says the discovery of Chumbley’s body was the result of numerous searches involving rescue crews and emergency management.

The investigation is still ongoing.
