Flint man charged with assaulting officers in Capitol insurrection

FLINT, MI -- A Flint man has been arrested on six federal charges, including assault, in relation to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

According to a Thursday, Dec. 2 petition filed in U.S. Eastern District Court, 31-year-old Justin Jersey, 31, of Flint, has been indicted on charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon, civil disorder, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds and violent entry and disorderly conduct in a capitol building or grounds.

Jersey was arrested in the Eastern District of Michigan Thursday in connection with a federal arrest warrant issued in the District of Columbia based on an indictment, the petition states.

The petition is for “the removal of the defendant to another district” and “petitions the Court for an order holding defendant Justin Jersey to answer to charges pending in another federal district, and states:”

No additional details were available as the case in the District of Columbia U.S District Court remains sealed.

Jersey marks the 13th Michigan residents facing federal charges for their alleged involvement in the U.S. Capitol riot.
