Zachary Levi Calls Shazam: Fury of the Gods 'Better' Than First Film

The first Shazam! film back in 2019 was a surprise hit, especially with the introduction of a hero that most people are not actually familiar with it. The titular hero was able to win the hearts of the general audience and, now, a second film is on its way with production already finished just a while ago.

We wouldn't see the sequel until in less than two years, but star Zachary Levi is already giving us a reason to be excited about it. In a recent interview with Collider, the actor was able to share his experience working on the follow-up in which he called it "better" than the first and gave a little tease on what we should expect.

He said, "I will say that I genuinely — and this is not just lip service — I'm really proud of the first one, I think we made a really, really good movie. I think the second one is better. I think that we had more time, we had more budget. We had, essentially, the entire cast returning, and we all knew our characters a little bit more; we could kind of sit into them a little bit more. Henry Gayden, who wrote the first script, wrote the second, and he did a fantastic job doing so. Everything just clicked even a little bit more and a little bit more. And also the kids have grown up a little bit more, so even the sensibilities of them become even slightly more mature which brings it closer to my or other people's adult minds, so there's even more connection there, I think. The action's great, the comedy's great, the relationships are great. The bad guys, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu, are fantastic. I'm very proud of it. I want it to come out sooner than June of 2023."

As the actor mentioned, we wouldn't be able to see the film until the summer of 2023 which is a long wait, but based on what he said here, it looks like it's going to be worth it. The first one was beloved by both critics and the audience and it seems that the sequel has the potential to receive the same kind of success.

Even though Shazam! Fury of the Gods won't be released until 2023, there is a Black Adam movie to look forward to next year. Of course, Black Adam is known to be the archenemy of the Marvel family in the comics. While Shazam is not expected to show up in his solo film, there are plans for the two to have a showdown in a future film after Fury of the Gods, but it might take a while before we'll get to see it happen.
