We've already established how likable Simu Liu actually is and the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings actor continues to impress fans with his wit and humor. Apart from being a huge fan of the Marvel franchise, something that he lobbied so hard to become a part of, it turns out that the Canadian star is also a massive Star Wars geek, and judging by the way he talked about the franchise during an appearance on Hot Ones, he's far from being a casual follower of the science-fiction epic.

During the interview, Liu was asked by host Sean Evans to name his favorite Jedi. The Kim's Convenience actor chose Qui-Gon Jinn and he has a pretty valid and intelligent reason for picking the beloved character played by Liam Neeson in the prequel trilogy.

Apparently, Liu isn't a fan of the whole Jedi Council concept which he thinks is plagued with hypocrisy but he appreciates Qui-Gon being someone who doesn't play by the Jedi's set of rules. He explains: "It's got to be Qui-Gon Jinn. I feel like, look I don’t know how deep you are in Star Wars. All right so, this whole idea of the Jedi during the Old Republic, just feels like if you you look at those [Jedi] Council scenes where everyone's so stuck up. They're all just like, 'These are the rules. We don't ever break the rules.'"

He continued: "And by the way very hypocritical too because the Jedi are supposed to not want power. They're like, 'We have no thirst for power.' And there's literally a Council that oversees everything. That's like in the highest part of Coruscant. So anyway I just love that Qui-Gon is a bit of a maverick. He doesn't care. He's like, 'Sorry I'm gonna train this kid.' And ultimately that kid is gonna grow up to become Darth Vader and overthrow the entire Republic. But still you've got to admire the guy that can see through the hypocrisy of the Jedi Order. They think they're the good guys. They're like, 'Oh yeah we're so good.' But really they’re the instruments of their own demise in a way."

Obviously, Simu knows his stuff and it would be safe to assume that he'd also like to take a crack at the franchise. There's obviously a good chance that he'll end up finding himself in a galaxy far, far away given the fact that Disney owns both properties. I'd like to think that it's only a matter of time.

Meanwhile, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is now available for streaming on Disney+.
