Ricky Morton says he is perplexed as to why AEW didn't follow through on the angle that was filmed to turn FTR heel at the expense of The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express.
FTR arrived in AEW at the start of their residency at Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida during the early portion of the pandemic. At first, they came in showing respect to The Young Bucks leading to a segment celebrating tag team wrestling. In that segment, FTR officially joined Tully Blanchard and turned full heel by attacking The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express
In a new interview on the Wrestle Buddy Podcast, Ricky Martin explained that he is not sure why the promotion never followed through with that angle but did say that he and Robert Gibson want to eventually work with FTR on the independent circuit.
Yeah, the doors are always open [at AEW]. I know on the independent circuit, Robert and I are fixing to wrestle FTR. I did a little thing on air where I slapped Tully Blanchard and remember, they piledrived me, I don't know. See now, this is what I'm talking about. They did this but they didn't take it anywhere else. Do you understand what I'm saying? You see, you have people in the back — I learned this from Dusty Rhodes, you've got to keep up with what's going on, well now you don't. but, back then, you took what you saw in the media and you made it into the wrestling."
FTR in recent months has begun using a theme song reminiscent of the old theme song of The Midnight Express, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express greatest rivals. Listen to it in full at this link.
