RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A suspect was arrested after a chase and crash on U.S. 64 Bypass in Randolph County on Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened near Zoo Connector around 2:45 p.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were conducting surveillance on a wanted person in a stolen car and tried to make a traffic stop.

The suspect refused to stop and a chase ensued.

In the area of Exit 346, the ramp for the Zoo Connector, the suspect left the roadway and made a U-turn and began traveling the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes. Shortly after, the suspect hit another vehicle head-on, pinning in the passenger of the suspect vehicle.

The driver of the stolen car and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to Randolph Hospital.

The passenger in the stolen car was flown to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist hospital.

There is no word on their conditions.

Highway patrol is investigating the crash.
