11 bit studios Reach Deal to Develop Upcoming Titles in Unreal Engine

Developer and Publishing umbrella, 11 bit studios have reached a custom licensing agreement with Epic Games to transition to Unreal Engine for 10 upcoming projects developed both internally and externally.

Projects under the long-term business agreement will be powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 and Unreal Engine 5 technology. 11 bit studios says that the deal will give the company “the freedom to select which variation of the Unreal license is the most suitable for a particular project.” The company adds the agreement also includes an option to extend number of projects, so there is a chance the deal might not be a 10-project deal at the end but we’ll see or not in the long term.

“The imagination knows no bounds, and now with the Unreal Engine our possibilities are endless, too,” CEO at 11 bit studios CEO, Przemyslaw Marszal said in a press release.

“The brand new tech of the 5th generation is impressive, and we’re excited that we might use it to its full potential in our new games. What we’re doing is Unreal!”

As part of the announcement, 11 bit studios revealed a nine-second tease of their yet-to-be-announced Project 8. The game is being developed in Unreal Engine and is seemingly the first project of their agreement with Epic Games.

“For more than a decade, 11 bit studios has developed and nurtured unforgettable experiences, games that capture our imagination, demand our attention and challenge us as players to make truly difficult choices,” Epic Games EMEA Games Business Development Director, Rocco Scandizzo said in a press release.

“With Unreal Engine as their storytelling tool, we can’t wait to see where they take us next, and we look forward to collaborating with their team for years to come.”

11 bit studios formed back in 2010 by former developers/staff members of CD Projekt and Metropolis Software. The company is known for the real-time strategy series, Anomaly and most recently Frostpunk (2018) which its sequel was recently announced back in August.

As for the other Unreal Engine projects, 11 bit studios teases more information will be unveiled sometime in 2022.
