This page will go over Smite's Charybdis' abilities, Hunter builds, tips and tricks, and more.
Added in Patch 8.8, Charybdis, The Ceaseless Whirlpool, boasts high attack speed and a powerful ultimate that resets on god kills, making her a powerful addition to your pool of hunters.
Charybdis Stats
These are Charybdis' stats as of patch 8.12, but these numbers may change in subsequent patches.
Health | 440 | Mana | 220 | Movement | 365 |
Health Regen | 7 | Mana Regen | 4.4 | Attacks/Sec | .95 |
Magic Protection | 30 | Physical Protection | 11 | Physical Power | 38 |
Charybdis Abilities
Charydis is a nightmare for enemies that are grouped together; Spike Shot and Capsize are designed around hitting multiple enemies at once, and can quickly burn through gods if you catch them unaware. Because you are immune to damage with Charybdis' Whirlpool Form, you can play much more aggressively and then quickly hide in the whirlpool to avoid incoming damage.
In teamfights, wait for enemies to either group together or for an ally to engage; then you can follow up with Spike Shot to start dealing damage. If you see a low health enemy, consider whether or not you will be out of position if you miss- the last thing you want is to both waste your ultimate and also give the enemy a kill.
Raging Tides
| Charybdis' attack speed increases as her Tide increases. Successful Basic Attack hits increase her Tide. Charybdis deals less damage with item effect procs. |
Spike Shot
| Charybdis reveals The Maw as it fires large spikes for a short duration dealing Basic Attack damage. These projectiles pass through minions and are wider and faster than normal Basic Attacks.
On hitting enemy gods and walls, the spikes splinter dealing additional damage. |
Minion Damage | 80/ 85/ 90/ 95/ 100% scaling |
Splinter Damage | 10/15/20/25/30 (+15% of your Physical Power) |
Mana | 50/ 55/ 60/ 65/ 70 |
Cooldown | 14 seconds. |
Capsize
| Charybdis absorbs water from around her before firing a quick blast from The Maw. Enemies are hit by a rapidly decaying Slow and Physical Protection debuff. This ability can be channeled for longer, consuming Tide on fire, to become wider, strengthen the debuff effects and deal more damage. Up to 40% Tide consumed. |
Damage | 80/130/180/230/280 (+85% of your Physical Power) |
Slow | 40% on max Tide |
Physical Protection Reduction | 40% on max Tide |
Mana | 60/ 65/ 70/ 75/ 80 |
Cooldown | 16/15/14/13/12 seconds |
Whirlpool Form
| Charybdis dives into a whirlpool she creates, expanding and revealing the terrifying Maw. Charybdis moves faster and deals damage to enemies caught in the area. This ability can be amplified by toggling it again and spending 30% Tide. Doing so increases the damage dealt and movement speed as well as providing extra damage and a knockup on exiting. While submerged, Charybdis is untargetable and immune to damage for up to 3s. |
Total Damage | 60/90/120/150/180 (+30% of your Physical Power) damage |
Total Amplified Damage | 180/280/380/480/580 (+125% of your Physical Power) damage |
Exit Damage | 60/100/140/180/220 (+65% of your Physical Power) |
Movement Speed | 20% (40% when amplified) |
Mana | 70/75/80/85/90 |
Cooldown | 17/16.5/16/15.5/15 seconds |
The Maw Hungers
| Charybdis reveals her true nature, becoming immune to Crowd Control for the next 6s, and gaining movement speed. She may make one powerful attack as The Maw charges forward, damaging and carrying back enemies hit before chomping down, damaging again and stunning. If she kills an enemy god with the attack, she gains another 6s and may attack again. |
Charge Damage | 60/90/120/150/180 (+20% of your Physical Power) |
Bite Damage | 300/400/500/600/700 (+150% of your Physical Power) |
Movement Speed | 35% |
Mana | 100 |
Cooldown | 90 seconds. |
Charybdis Hunter Builds
Remember that these items are only suggestions and that you can always swap something out if you think it will make more of an impact, like building magical protections earlier if the enemy team has a lot of magic damage. You can also use the in-game ‘Popular’ tab to see what the most common items being built for your god are.
| | | | | |
Death's Embrace | Ichaival | Wind Demon | Deathbringer | Qin's Sais | Bloodforge |
This Arena build excels in two areas, sustain in the form of Death's Embrace, and quick criticals from Spike Shot. The more basic attacks you land, either normally or with Spike Shot, the more powerful your critical hits will be. Bloodforge is a strong last item to cap off the build, because as long as you get one kill with The Maw Hungers, you will still have a very strong shield once your ultimate ends.
| | | | | |
Hunter's Cowl | Ichaival | Asi | The Crusher | Qin's Sais | Silverbranch Bow |
This build is more suited for Conquest; foregoing stacking items like Transcendence in exchange for upfront damage. While you can also use Death's Embrace if you prefer sustain, the Hunter's Cowl will give you attack speed if you're with an ally, and movement speed if you're alone, both stats Charybdis benefits from. By the endgame, you'll be able to attack quickly and pierce through much of the protection being built by Warriors and Guardians.
Tips For Playing Charybdis
- Enemies that are grouped up are easy pickings for Spike Shot; Charybdis pairs well with gods that have heavy crowd control like Cerberus and Ares since they can pull enemies together for a well placed Spike or even The Maw Hungers!
- Charybdis is immune to damage while submerged in her Whirlpool Form. If you time it right, you can avoid heavy burst and turn an engagement around.
- Always try to keep your Tide high with lots of basic attacks. When it’s full, the attack speed buff combined with Spike Shot can be a deadly combination.
- Even without the reset, The Maw Hungers does heavy damage and briefly stuns the enemies it hits. If the enemy survives, follow up with Capsize and Spike Shot.
- Assassins such as Loki that get the jump on Charybdis can burst her fairly quickly; be prepared to use Whirpool Form and possibly the Heavenly Wings relic to reposition or escape a close call.
- You only get one shot to strike an enemy with The Maw Hungers; it resets if you can land a kill, so aim well!
