The Book Of Boba Fett Details From Magazines Coverage
This week saw some The Book of Boba Fett details from magazines coverage. Specifically SFX and Disney’s D23. First up let’s look at Ming Na Wen’s comments in the Winter Disney D23 magazine.
“Well, there’s a partnership between the two of them [Fennec and Boba Fett], for sure. They’re bonded by the fact that they both lived through a near-death experience. And there is a sense of code that they both abide by.”
Wen then spoke about how both Fett and Shand are not bad guys, but they’re not good guy’s either.
“So it’s going to be really interesting to see how their dynamics grow in The Book of Boba Fett. I think that’s all I can say. The rest is, you have to watch. Not that they’re the bad guys. They’re not that good either. We are the anti-hero. I like playing an anti-hero. You get away with more, I think.”
I know some fans seem unable to imagine how Fett can lead a show and not become a ‘good guy’ I think those fans forget how much the World loves a good gangster movie or show. The Soprano’s anyone? Wen then praised lead star Temuera Morrison.
“Temuera is spectacular. In some way, he’s the opposite of me, which is good, because he’s less of a nerd than I am. He appreciates the work that goes into everything, and I geek out at everything.”
SFX
In the latest issue of SFX both Wen and Morrison are interviewed and there is some interesting information to look over. First Wen on the relationship between Fennec Shand and Boba Fett.
“In The Book Of Boba Fett there will be a lot of exploration of the dynamics between Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, how they complement each other, and what they get out of that relationship,” Wen teases. “He’s someone she respects and they have definitely bonded with him saving her. It allowed her to realize that she might be better off not being solo anymore. She sees her alliance with Boba Fett as a very smart move, in the sense that she’ll have somebody watching her back. And even though it might be an extra baggage to have to align herself with someone else, the reward for her at the moment is greater. “And you know, Boba died – or we thought he did – in the Sarlacc pit, so I think that both of them share those near-death experiences in common. They both have a vulnerability that they understand.”
Slave-1 No More
There’s also a section which confirms, once again, the name change of Slave-1 to Firespray.
“Disney has rebranded Slave I as the Firespray, for fairly obvious reasons.”
I’m not sure the reason are so obvious here to be honest. I mean, I get it, but I don’t actually agree a change is necessary.
Maintaining Fett’s Mystique?
“Possibly the show’s biggest challenge, then, is developing the character without destroying the mystique that’s previously been integral to the Fett brand. “Yes, and that’s where we kind of opened up too much of the can at times, I think,” Morrison admits. “I did have my reservations, but hey, I trust the people I work with. I was so lucky I had people like Dave Filoni who has an ability to connect some of the dots – some of the ancient dots – and to keep that authenticity. I relied on him a lot, because I’m not one of these actors that reads every comic book and every bounty hunter book.’”
Finally Morrison had a comment on whether we will find out what Fett has been doing in the 5 years since he fell in the Sarlaac pit?
“There will definitely be a number of answers,” teases Morrison. “Some long-winded answers. Some short and sharp answers. Some colorful answers. We’re filling a lot of gaps.”
