CHEBOYGAN COUNTY, MI – A Michigan man is accused of breaking into a home and sexually assaulting a woman while she slept.

Russell Allen Higdon, 38, of Indian River has been charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct, CSC third degree and home invasion for the alleged incident that occurred at a residence in Cheboygan County in July.

Higdon turned himself in on Nov. 30 after a warrant for his arrest was issued on Sept. 27 following a months-long investigation by troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post.

The victim claimed she was sexually assaulted in her home while she was sleeping in the early morning hours of July 17. She said she awoke while a man was assaulting her. She managed to get away and the man left the residence, police said.

The victim knew the suspect, according to police. Higdon was arraigned Wednesday in the 89th District Court in Cheboygan County. He is being held without bond in the Cheboygan County Jail.

His next scheduled court appearance is on Dec. 10.
