The Minnesota and Wisconsin departments of transportation are hosting a virtual public meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday to discuss alternative options for the Blatnik Bridge project.

The Blatnik Bridge opened in 1961, connecting Duluth and Superior over the St. Louis River Bay. After 60 years of exposure to elements, the bridge has deteriorated and is nearing the end of its usable life, a news release said.

MnDOT and WisDOT have a management agreement in place to keep the bridge safe for its remaining life, and MnDOT is leading the National Environmental Policy Act process to assess the project’s needs, alternative options and determine environmental impacts.

Construction for the project is targeted for 2028-2032, with preliminary and final design process from 2024-2028.

The public meeting will include a presentation and time for questions. More information on the project and a link to the virtual meeting can be found on the project webpage at mndot.gov/d1/projects/blatnik-bridge . For those unable to attend any of the meetings, a recording will be posted on the webpage to be viewed when convenient. To call into the meeting, dial 855-282-6330. The meeting access code is 2484 248 6026.
