A man is stable after an officer involved shooting.
The Ben Hill County Sheriff's Office requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to conduct an independent investigation after a man was shot during a call that deputies responded to.
Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the 300 block of Marigold Road, in Fitzgerald, on December 1.
According to the GBI, when deputies arrived, they found 38-year-old Jeremiah Hasenbalg holding a gun in each hand. Hasenbalg refused to comply with the deputies' commands to drop the weapons. The GBI says that after numerous attempts to get Hasenbalg to comply, Hasenbalg advanced towards one of the three deputies on scene with the guns still in hand and that deputy shot him.
Deputies performed first aid on Hasenbalg until EMS arrived. He was then transported to Tift Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.
Hasenbalg is in stable condition and is in the custody of the Ben Hill County Sheriff's Office.
No deputies were injured during this incident.
The GBI adds that they will conduct an independent investigation and upon completion, it will be turned over to the Cordele Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.
