Four Ky. banks named to 2021 list of Best Banks to Work For

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Four Kentucky banks recently were named to American Banker’s 2021 list of Best Banks to Work For.

The Best Banks to Work For program, which was initiated in 2013, identifies, recognizes and honors U.S. banks for outstanding employee satisfaction. United Community Bank of Western Kentucky of Morganfield (No. 20), Independence Bank of Owensboro (No. 23), Stock Yards Bank and Trust of Louisville (No. 64), and Kentucky Farmers Bank of Ashland (No. 68) were among the 90 banks featured on the list.

The list highlights ways the banks are focused on employee satisfaction and well-being.

At United Community Bank of Western Kentucky, the bank pays the dues for employees to join local charitable organizations. It also encourages employees to learn new skills, which CEO Garland Certain said “creates enthusiasm and provides motivation.”

At Independence Bank, the best ideas for efficiency and new products come from employees, the Best Banks article said.

“While we may not have planned for everything 2020 brought us, Independence Bank rose to the challenges of the pandemic because we have the best people, who we call family,” said Chris Reid, CEO of Independence Bank.

Stock Yards Bank was honored for success in employee attraction and retention. The bank has worked to expand its sourcing of talent, the article said.

“We continue to believe that the best way to serve our customers is through knowledgeable, engaged and enthusiastic employees. Being on the list of Best Banks to Work For is a direct reflection of our community bank’s commitment to service,” said Stock Yards Bank Chairman and CEO James A. (Ja) Hillebrand.

Kentucky Farmers Bank focuses on developing its future managers, the article notes. “The bank has implemented a program to ensure that employees in every department have access to mentoring and education,” the article said.

Determining the Best Banks to Work For involves a two-step process. The first step involves an evaluation of participating companies’ workplace policies, practices and demographics. In the second step, employee surveys are conducted to directly assess the experiences and attitudes of individual employees with respect to their workplace. The combined scores determine the top banks and the final ranking.
