Three longtime Jim Thorpe school board members took the oath of office for another term, along with a longtime teacher.

Glenn Confer, Richard Flacco, Dennis McGinley, and Jerry Strubinger each took the oath of office during the board’s reorganization meeting Wednesday night.

The board reappointed Scott Pompa as president and Thomas J. Garritano as vice president - the second year for both. The vote was unanimous, with Paul Montemuro absent.

Pompa thanked the board for their support and said he looks forward to working in the best interest of the district and community.

“I certainly have been honored to work with you all the last year. We have a lot to look forward to coming up in the upcoming year,” he said.

The members who were sworn in Wednesday won four-year terms on the board in November’s general election.

Confer is in his 30th year on the board, and it is the 24th year for McGinley.

Flacco, a retired technology education teacher, is in his first year on the board.

The board appointed him to the seat vacated by Raniero Marciante in September.

At the time, Flacco had already won both the Republican and Democratic primary for the school board, virtually guaranteeing him a seat this term.

The board set monthly meetings for the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the High School Auditorium.

Committee meetings will take place the first Monday of the month, with optional committee meetings on the third Wednesday or last Monday of the month. Meetings are posted on the district website.

The board reappointed Strubinger to his position on the Joint Operating Committee of Carbon Career and Technical Institute.

They said they plan to remain with Beard Legal Group as solicitor for the coming year.

“Throughout the last year it has been very comforting to work with Carl Beard and his son as they provide solid legal advice and support this board 100 percent,” Pompa said.
