One of the biggest questions heading into the season was who would establish themselves as the clear-cut backup behind Austin Ekeler.

11 games into the regular season, and the Chargers have still not been able to decipher that.

Justin Jackson was viewed as the likely option entering the season, and while talented, he has not been able to stay healthy consistently.

Joshua Kelley and Larry Rountree have had their opportunities, but neither has done anything inspiring. Kelley has 41 yards on 11 carries. Rountree is averaging 2.4 yards on 36 attempts.

Last weekend against the Broncos, Los Angeles called up Darius Bradwell from the practice squad, but he saw the field for just seven snaps without logging a single touch.

All the while, Ekeler has been Mr. Do-It-All, with 604 rushing yards, 473 receiving yards, and 14 total touchdowns.

As result, the Bolts rank 22nd in rushing yards per game (103.0), 29th in rushing attempts (22.5) and are middle of the pack in rushing touchdowns (10).

On Wednesday, the Chargers hosted Ito Smith for a visit. In 35 NFL games, Smith has 689 yards and six touchdowns on 175 rushing attempts and 55 receptions for 314 yards.

The lack of a second option has hindered the offense from being balanced and more efficient and will only cause wear and tear to Ekeler at a quicker rate as time goes on.
