DETROIT -- Authorities in Michigan arrested a mother and her girlfriend who are wanted in connection with the death of the mother’s 9-year-old daughter. The child’s remains were found in Oregon last year.
According to the Associated Press, police identified the remains of Haley Mae Coblentz this week, nearly a year after her body was found stuffed in a duffle bag in the woods in Oregon. Haley’s body was found on Dec. 10, 2020, but investigators believe the body had been there for at least a month before it was found.
On Tuesday, members of the FBI arrested Haley’s mother, 28-year-old Shawna Browning, in Detroit along with her girlfriend, 34-year-old Lauren Harrison. Both women are being held without bond on suspicion of aggravated murder. Police served a warrant to search the room and the vehicle belonging to the women.
According to a news release issued by the Oregon State Police, Haley lived with the women in multiple places in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest since 2015, before she was found dead. Haley was never listed as a missing person after her disappearance, according to police.
It is unknown when the women will be extradited to Oregon to be formally charged.
