Georgia 3rd grader wins $1,000 for growing monster 20-pound cabbage

CANTON, Ga. — A third-grader in Canton won $1,000 after growing a mammoth 20-pound cabbage.

Addy Lefevre, who goes to Holly Springs Elementary School, grew the cabbage through a program with Bonnie Plants.

“The size and appearance of her cabbage, along with her enthusiasm for the task, netted Addy a $1,000 scholarship from Bonnie Plants,” Georgia Market Bulletin wrote on Facebook. “You grow girl!”

Bonnie Plants started the 3rd Grade Cabbage Program in 1996 to inspired young people to love vegetable gardening and teach kids where their food comes from. The company sends more than a million from O.S. Cross, or “oversized” cabbage plants to third grade classrooms across the country. That variety of cabbage can grow to more than 40 pounds.
