First National hat and glove drive underway

First National Bank is collecting hats and gloves for area schools at all of its locations in Creston, Afton and Shenandoah. The drive will continue through Dec. 15.

Abbie Cook at First National in Afton said their box is under a Christmas tree in the lobby and more than hats and gloves or mittens are welcome.

“First National Bank is taking part in random acts of kindness and I thought it would be a great idea for kids to be able to get these things on hand at school,” said Abbie Cook of First National Bank. “Some kids aren’t fortunate enough to get new items.”

Cook said donated items to the hat and glove drive are not limited to new items. Clean, gently used hats, gloves, scarves, coats, snow pants, boots, and warm socks may also be donated.

“I just didn’t think it would be fair for some kids to go home over winter break and not have the appropriate winter wear they need,” said Cook. “Some kids do get to miss out on recess with all their friends during the winter time just because they don’t have the warm coat or they don’t have the snow boots.”

To donate items, place items in box or near trees in First National’s bank lobbies.
