Taiko No Tatsujin Could Be Coming To Xbox For The First Time

If a new TrueAchievements listing is to be believed, a new Taiko no Tatsujin game could be on its way to Xbox for the first time in the consoles' history

A new TrueAchievements listing could reveal the existence of an upcoming Taiko no Tatsujin game for Xbox. If the listing is legit, this will be the first time the Japanese rhythm-action franchise has been available on Microsoft's consoles.

What do we know about this new Taiko no Tatsujin listing?

Over on TrueAchievements, a new listing has popped up for a game rather mysteriously codenamed T Tablet_for XC. While that name isn't particularly evocative, a quick look at the achievements for the game (which total 1000 Gamerscore, natch) reveals that it'll have a "Taiko Mode" and a genre marked "NAMCO Original". What's more, the icons for all the achievements display a picture of Don-chan, the mascot for the Taiko no Tatsujin series. Of course, it's likely this potential Taiko no Tatsujin game will hit other consoles and PC, too.

The TrueAchievements listing doesn't have an icon, but Don-chan gives the game away.

It looks like the game will also feature an in-game shop allowing you to buy songs and instruments. Given that there are achievements tied to doing so, it's unlikely the shop will require real currency; rather, it'll probably involve spending coins, which you can acquire in-game. You'll also be able to purchase nameplates, titles, greetings, and various other odds and ends. Naturally, the achievement list also contains lots of secret achievements, so if the Taiko no Tatsujin game does turn out to be real, you might not want to read too far down TrueAchievements' list for fear of spoiling it for yourself.

When will the Xbox Taiko no Tatsujin game be released?

Since we don't have an official announcement for this game yet, it's safe to assume it could be a while away from being revealed or released. Geoff Keighley's annual Game Awards ceremony is happening soon, and new games are often revealed during the ceremony. Last year saw the reveal of a brand new Dragon Age trailer at the Game Awards, as well as the unveiling of Sephiroth as a Super Smash Bros Ultimate fighter and the existence of a Perfect Dark reboot. The ceremony takes place in a week's time, so we'll know for sure then.

Big reveals like Sephiroth hitting Smash Bros happen at The Game Awards, so we could get a Taiko no Tatsujin reveal soon.

Until then, there are still plenty of ways you can whet your rhythm appetite on Xbox. Games like Sayonara Wild Hearts and Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory should give you a chance to flex your musical muscles, and if you just can't wait for a peripheral-based music game in the run-up to the Taiko no Tatsujin reveal, then you could always seek out a Rock Band 4 set. Beware, though: they command some pretty high prices. We'll bring you more on Taiko no Tatsujin for Xbox as soon as we get it.
