By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro San Carlo has announced a cast change for “Otello.”

The theater noted that Jonas Kaufmann will sing the title role on Dec. 10 and 14 while Kunde will sing the performance on Dec. 7, 2021. Both replace the originally announced Yusif Eyvazov.

Kaufmann opened “Otello” on Nov. 21, 2021 and has already performed it four times. He is performing the role alongside Maria Agresta, Alessandro Liberatore, Manuela Custer, and Igor Golovatenko. Michele Mariotti conducts the new production by Mario Martone.

Kunde is a well-known Otello who has performed the role at the Royal Opera House and Wiener Staatsoper. He is set to sing “Ernani” in Piacenza in December as well as “Turandot” in Hamburg in March.

“Otello” at the Teatro San Carlo runs through Dec. 14, 2021.
