Auction to feature to accordion Berwyn polka queen played in ‘Ferris Bueller’

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A movie memorabilia auction will include a legendary local squeeze-box.

Berwyn's Vlasta Krsek was the polka queen and she had her turn in the Hollywood spotlight when she played the Beatles’ “Twist and Shout” and Wayne Newton’s “Danke Schoen” in 1986’s “Ferris Bueller's Day Off.”

That movie cameo turned Vlasta into a national figure. She even played her accordion with the band on Johnny Carson's “Tonight Show.”

Krsek died last year at the age of 83.

The accordion she played in “Ferris Bueller's Day Off” will be auctioned off alongside John Travolta's suit from “Pulp Fiction” and Patrick Swayze's surfboard from “Point Break.”

The accordion is a Baldoni that was kept at her home in Berwyn. The pre-auction bid is $1,200.
