Main Street was filled with Whos and Grinches on Saturday, as the town of Jonesborough was transformed into Dr. Seuss’ Whoville.

“This is our first time here in a while,” said Whoville attendee Peggy Scott, who came down from Weber City, Virginia. “But we are excited to be back.”

Peggy’s son, Isaac, was very eager to begin their day in Whoville.

“I’m excited about this whole Christmas,” said six-year-old Isaac. “And Santa!”

The entire family was dressed like characters from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” and were ready to make Grinchmas memories.

Not only was the Grinch at the event to take photos, but there was a large Christmas teddy bear and special appearance by Santa himself and his wife, Mrs. Claus.

After getting your photo, visitors could hop into the Lollipop Shop to watch the movie “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” or have it read to them in the parlor of the Chester Inn just like it was done many years ago.

“The Grinch is our favorite thing,” said Destiny Berry, who is from Bristol. “This is our first time here; we love the Grinch.”

Berry and her friend, Sarah Turnmire, also from Bristol, brought their three girls, all who were dressed as Cindy Lou Who.

“This is one of our favorite Christmas movies,” Turnmire said. “It’s definitely my daughter’s favorite movie.”

Berry agreed, “Every time we go to play a movie, she’s like ‘The Grinch! The Grinch!’”

In addition to all things Grinch, you could also find a fire pit for making s’mores, a tour of Olde Jonesborough and a horse-drawn carriage making its rounds throughout the town.

“I’m enjoying my time here somewhat, even though there are a lot of people,” said the Grinch, “I’ve met a lot of Whovillians and they are alright.”

With wreaths hung on lamp posts and trees covered in lights, the spirit of Christmas was present at every turn.

“One thing I love about Christmas is how people actually care about other people,” said Ashley Ambros, also from Weber City. “It is great to see.”

There were families lined up and down the sidewalks, whether for photos or music, just enjoying the season with each other.

“My most favorite thing about Christmas is family,” Turnmire said.

Both Turnmire and Berry agreed that time with family is something that you can’t get back, especially around the holidays.

It seems even the Grinch’s small heart grew three sizes during the Whoville celebration, and he decided to tell us his favorite thing about the season.

“My favorite thing to do at Christmas is hang out with my dog Max,” the Grinch said. “Sometimes we even put up a Christmas tree, but it’s mainly made of twigs.”
