Sorrento’s, a popular Long Beach eatery that had been in business for over 20 years before a fire destroyed it and an adjoining tattoo parlor in May, has re-opened.

The restaurant opened at a new location at 768 West Beech St., Nov. 21, the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

Sorrento’s owner Steve Cianciotto said the decision to open the new location was made with employees in mind. He said he wanted to “keep the employees working and able to work.”

The shop hasn’t done any great amount of advertising strictly relying on word-of-mouth to get the news out. Business has been great anyway, though, Cianciotto said.

“Long Beach has the greatest residents and customers on Long Island,” Cianciotto said about the success of their new shop. “We have done all this with no advertising.”

A fire ravaged through Sorrento’s and Abyss Tattoo Studio at about 4:30 am on May 26. The four-alarm fire ripped through the businesses, destroying them both. They were forced to close with no reopening in sight.

The day of the fire, crowds gathered around, including television stations, to see the damage to both shops. Both shops were forced to move if they wanted business to continue.

Abyss has now relocated to the center of Long Beach at 54 West Park Ave., second floor.

Sorrento’s, the Italian eatery offering pizza, meats, cheeses and other meals, has been a staple in the city for about 20 years. It was featured on Barstool Sports’ pizza review show on August 28, 2019. The pizza scored an 8.7 out of 10, which is high by the show’s standards.
