(December 2, 2021) Ah, the miracles of modern technology. Computers can allow people to do so many things that are quite impressive. Derek L. “D Brown” Brown uses the tools of modern technology to create a one-man band on the video for his latest contemporary jazz tune, “A New Beginning (Feat. Chris Hoyte).”

The video shows a band jamming in a studio. You see a keyboardist, two guitarists, two trumpeters, a percussionist, bassist, and saxophonist Hoyte. All the other musicians look suspiciously like D Brown – that is once you get past the difference in wardrobe such as the percussionist wearing a sombrero and the horn players donning Afro and dreadlock wigs. That could easily slip right past you as your attention focuses on the music that they play.

Now D Brown could be pulling our collective legs. Deep fake technology is an amazing thing. However, D Brown is a multi-instrumentalist along with being a singer, songwriter and producer. So, as impressive as I find his computer editing, D. Brown’s skills on five different instruments is, to me, even more impressive. I imagine the how long it took him to master one, let alone five. But D Brown bassist and keyboardist does what the rhythm section is supposed to do in laying down the foundation for the guitarist and horn players to improvise. And that is exactly what they do and Brown along with Hoyte show that they a creative improvisors.

Brown is also a seasoned artist who has worked in nearly every genre since his debut CD Eclectic in 2012. Check out the video for “A New Beginning” here.
