Road-going sports cars and their race car siblings are common enough. One such example is the Z06 GT3.R, a racing version of the hugely capable Corvette C8. But what about a racing counterpart to a family-friendly, electric crossover? It sounds bizarre, but Nissan has just revealed the Ariya Single Seater Concept. As an exploration and demonstration project of how the Ariya's electric powertrain could be used in a racing car chassis, it's yet another amazing electric concept car from Nissan to be revealed over the last few days. Further motivation for the race car stems from Nissan's participation in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

"At Nissan, we dare to do what others don't," said Juan Manuel Hoyos, Nissan global marketing divisional general manager for brand and engagement. "With this concept, we want to showcase the high-performance potential of the Ariya's powertrain in a motorsports-inspired package that not only hints at the design and styling of the road car that inspired it, but that also demonstrates a new and efficient EV design language."

The Ariya Single Seater Concept's design even shares the Ariya's color scheme. It has an illuminated "V" motion design in front, and carbon fiber has been used in its construction. Certain suspension components are exposed and the wheels come with aerodynamic covers.

Nissan didn't specify outputs for the racing concept, but we do know that the most powerful Ariya produces 389 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. That should be plenty in a racing car that will weigh far less than the crossover.

"The Nissan Ariya Single Seater Concept explores the combination of the all-electric powertrain, dual motors, and revolutionary all-wheel-drive system of the Ariya with a pure single seat racing chassis," said Tommaso Volpe, Nissan global motorsports director.

Not only does the concept have killer looks, but it hints at an even more exciting electrified racing future for Nissan.
