Franklin woman killed in crash along Interstate 79 off-ramp in Crawford County Wednesday

MEADVILLE — A Franklin woman was killed on Wednesday afternoon when the pickup truck she was riding in crashed on an Interstate 79 off-ramp in Crawford County, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

The crash was reported on Wednesday at about 3:20 p.m. on the I-79 southbound exit to Routes 6/322 east and Route 19 north, Exit 147A, in Vernon Township.

A 2014 Toyota Tacoma driven by Norman L. Pfendler of Franklin lost control on a curve, went off the left side of the ramp and crashed into a concrete barrier, according to state police in Meadville. The truck then went airborne and landed in the southbound on-ramp, troopers reported.

Pfendler was taken to the Meadville Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries. A passenger in the truck, Bonnie L. Pfendler, 76, of Franklin, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police, who also said Bonnie Pfendler was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
