Perhaps overshadowed by the massive news that the Chicago Cubs signed Marcus Stroman , the Cubs are bringing back a familiar name. No, it’s not Kris Bryant or Anthony Rizzo. Rather, the Cubs are bringing back OF Michael Hermosillo on a one-year deal.

Hermosillo was originally non-tendered by the Cubs earlier in the week. However, the team saw enough in the local product to extend him another one-year deal. Now, in a crazy transition year for the team, Hermosillo might get a longer look with the Cubs in 2022.

In 16 games with the Cubs in 2021, Hermosillo slashed .194/.237/.500 with three home runs and seven RBIs. Although the average was underwhelming, Hermosillo made many exciting plays in the short stint at the MLB level.

However, Hermosillo was very good at the Triple-A level. In 43 games, he slashed .306/.446/.592 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs along with 10 doubles. The outfielder was dominant with the Iowa Cubs and earned his long awaited opportunity with the Cubs.

Wednesday was a busy day for the Cubs, but don’t let the Hermosillo signing go under the radar. He’s back and looking for a big 2022 season.
