I think both.
Emma is in for a fall, that is for sure.

I still wonder about the scar on his chest. He can't have done that to himself, can he?

The consultant said he had an operation when he was a child to mend a hole in his heart

I don't know about him having medical issues but it's certainly a pain in my arse to watch this. Cue conning and conniving on an industrial scale, tears before bedtime and yet another scum bag story line. Why do soap writers always feel the need to make people suffer? that includes the viewers. I'll be listening to music on my Ipad until this tripe is over.

Curtis and Emma are awful. I can barely stand to watch them - they’re either desperately dreary or ridiculous. I just hope their pathetic story doesn’t go on too long, but I expect it will ☹️

I wonder if he'll have "I told you I was ill" on his gravestone, like Spike Milligan? 😆

I thought he was a con man at first but I actually think he does believe he has a serious heart condition, it’s just no one believes him.

He has a serious acting problem. What a borefest.

It is shaping up to be a ridiculous storyline which we will be talking about in the same breath as "Fake Katie" in years to come.

They are missing an obvious trick for a topical issue-led storyline: instead of linking it back to a hole in the heart when he was a baby they could have had him as a patient with no previous history complaining about fresh symptoms and not being able to get to see a specialist because of Covid backlog, then dying because something treatable went undisclosed. A much better, more credible and more powerful storyline than this load of old tosh.

As pointed out by another poster in the SOR thread, we’ve already had 12 months of misery and depressing storylines. The thought of Curtis ‘dying’ felt like another miserable storyline to add to the ever long list we’ve had recently but now we know it’s all in his head I’m kind of relieved. It still means misery for Emma when she finds out but at least it’s not another impending death

As powerful as your storyline suggestion may be it would be too much on top of the deaths of Oliver, Norris, Seb, Natasha & Johnny along with the rest of the Seb storyline, the Harvey storyline involving Leanne & Simon, the Ray & Faye stuff

We need a bit of light relief

Sam Retford is a fantastic actor, there’s a difference between a boring story and a bad actor…

I think that’s what he has. The actor said on Lorraine it was called Fictitious Illness Disorder which is more or less the same thing as Munchausens

I don’t think he’s deliberately trying to con people, he truly thinks he’s ill

I don’t think that’s the case, from the interview with ds it seems that he knows he is lying but enjoys the attention from it.

its a mental illness he belives he is sick but he actually isn't sick so I don't think he is coning anyone and the actor said himself on the DS interview curtis does love Emma. obvviously he doesn't think he is lying if he belives he has a heart condition

I take your point about needing light relief, but I would have thought that most viewers arent as "invested" in Curtis anything like as much as they were in most of the characters who you listed. Even Robert Preston is missed more than this drippy character would be. I kind of wished he was going to turn out fo be a con-man so that we could get rid of him fairly soon without having another depressing death, but as it's not looking that way then die he must!

I don’t think the mental illness is that he believed he is sick, but that he is making up illnesses for adoration and validation. According to the interview with Sam he is aware he is lying and doesn’t actually believe he is sick.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t have missed him if he did die, I meant the misery put upon Emma and her walking around mourning him

Just as well there is a resident undertaker as well as a resident policeman and two resident solicitors on the Street. Nene of them are never short of local business (most of it is usually related!)
